Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a white wine that is produced around the Medieval town of San Gimignano in Tuscany, Italy. The name of the grape refers either to a derivation of the word “vernaculus,” Latin for local, meaning it’s the local grape, or the town of Vernazza in Liguria, where it might have come from. It’s been around for centuries, with earliest written references from the 13th century. Vernaccia was the favorite wine of Pope Martin IV. In Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, he placed Pope Martin in Purgatorio, forever made to eat eels pickled in Vernaccia for his sins of gluttony.  
19th and 20th February the new Vernaccia 2011 and the Riserva 2010 and 2009 will be presented and it will be possible to taste them.

This year, too, the stars will be the hundreds of bottles of Chianti Classico being sampled at the event devoted to one of the world’s most prestigious wine territories. The “Chianti Classico Collection 2012” will be held as usual at the Stazione Leopolda in Florence, where the latest vintages and most important news will be presented to the wine press and trade.
In its nineteenth edition, the “Collection” will be held for three days instead of two.
So the kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 am on Monday, February 20, for a session dedicated entirely to sector operators that will end at 6:30 pm. On this day the public will be able to meet with the 150-odd wineries present to taste the latest Chianti Classico vintages and barrel previews of the 2011, plus the 2011 olive oil at the stands of the producers belonging to the Chianti Classico DOP Olive Oil Consortium.
The next day (Tuesday, February 21) it will be the turn of Italian and international wine writers, who will taste the wines from participating wineries but without the presence of the vintners, who will return the following day to meet with them.

From Februray 24th to February 27th the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino organizes the world popular event called “BENVENUTO BRUNELLO”.
On this occasion the new wines (Brunello di Montalcino 2007 and the Riserva 2006) on the market since the beginning of the new year are presented and the stars  assigned to the new vintage are announced.
2007 was  an extraordinary harvest: vintage 2007 – five stars, where the grapes reached a level of perfection never seen before.
On the same occasion a  commemorative tile is placed on the walls of the old Town Hall and the  Leccio d’Oro Prize is awarded.
Two days  dedicated to the presenting  the new wines on the market to the operators in the sector.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is the least well-known of the three major Tuscan Appellations -- the other two are Chianti and Brunello -- though it is perhaps older: Renaissance poets were already singing its praises when Chianti was just a geographic term referring the the area between Florence and Siena, and Brunello hadn't yet been developed. Alas, since then Nobile's fortunes have faded with respect to those of the upstarts. But is this so bad? For the winemakers, but not for consumers, because there is some excellent Nobile di Montepulciano to be had, at more reasonable prices than those commanded by its more sought after cousins.
From 18th to 20th February in the Fortress of Montepulciano the 2009 wines and the 2008 Riserva (both 4 stars vintages) will be presented.

From 25 to 29 January 2012 Stazione Leopolda in Florence will host the 19th edition of Vintage Selection, one of the most authoritative and prestigious exhibition for italian and euopean vintage fashion.
At Vintage Selection there are not only lovers, collectors and ordinary people searching something original, but also fashion designers and style creatives from the great fashion firms who are in Florence for Pitti Immagine Filati, that takes place in the same days at the Fortress. The synergy with this audience of connoisseurs is one of the strengths and distinction of Vintage Selection and represents a further stimulus for quality, innovation and stylistic research.
The theme of this nineteenth edition will be the Very Vintage. About a week before the show at the Rex will take place Very Vintage Night Fever: people will be able to interpret, with creativity and fun, their idea of ​​Vintage. In this way a gallery of images will be created and then it will be showed during the exhibition at the Stazione Leopolda.

In the Hall of the Royal Post Office at the Uffizi Gallery is currently on the eleventh edition of "I have ever seen", an event that offers to the public the possibility to admire never seen works owned by Gallery.
A part of the classical sculptures collection is exposed. The exhibition brings to light and becomes visible to the public 44 busts that make up the "series of 'Caesars in marble," the most beautiful portraits ever seen and significant collection of the Uffizi.
They contrast with the selection of the other 23 busts, paintings and graphics, with portraits testifying how great was the artists’ interest for ancient times, while also showing direct references to the texts themselves.
The exhibition is accompanied by a fun workshop for children and their parents, entitled Belli in Busti (reservations required).
After a vist to the exhibition, it will be possible to attend this laboratory dedicated to the creation of Roman busts, hairstyles, clothes, all for free!

For over 40 years the fair has taken place on the first weekend of every month and has become an essential event for collectors and dealers alike, with an average attendance of 20.000 people each weekend.
